Anthem IT Apprenticeship
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, which serves as Georgia’s health insurance provider for youth in foster care, launched an innovative idea in 2019 to fill its growing Information and Technology (IT) jobs with the youth on their roster. A pre-apprenticeship program that leads to a job as an apprentice was envisioned as a way to care for youth as they transition into adulthood while also helping the company develop a competent workforce to fill vacant IT positions. Youth who are nearing exit from foster care are recruited to the five-year pre-apprenticeship program where they gain the certification and competencies needed for a career in IT.

Georgia BLU
Business Leaders United for Workforce Partnerships (BLU) is an initiative of the National Skills Coalition and is comprised of employers from a range of industries across the nation who are concerned about our nation’s skills gap and who want our country’s policymakers to invest – aggressively and effectively – in the skills of America’s workers. Our state affiliate, Georgia BLU, provides a common platform from which we can communicate to national policymakers about the effective industry-based strategies which could serve as models for a more comprehensive national skills policy. The Georgia BLU coalition is jointly led by CareerRise and the Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC). Through our networks, we provide regional and statewide credibility to coalition-building and advocacy for skills training policy.
